The Oleander Sword by Tasha Suri

The Oleander Sword is a perfect sequel to The Jasmine Throne. Tasha Suri continues weaving her beautiful magic system through political alliances and betrayals. Priya becomes a temple elder in Ahiranyi, and Malini consolidates her allies and starts her march on Parijatdvipa to take the empire from her brother. In Malini’s world of tentative friendships, she longs for someone she can fully trust, someone she can fully let her guard down around. Mailni sends for Priya under the pretense of wanting her magic. Priya goes to Malini, leaving Bhumika to manage the fragile peace in Ahiranyi.

As Priya, Bhumika, and others use more and more of their earth magic, the yaksa (the ancient earth gods) begin to return to the world, However, instead of the kind, benevolent gods many had worshipped, the yaksa return as cruel, exacting, all-powerful beings who expect their every whim to be followed. Danger from all sides is closing in on Priya and Malini–the undefeatable yaksa and the powerful Parijatdvipa empire. As they struggle to overcome their obstacles, their love might be sacrificed to their ambitions.

I love Tasha Suri’s take on star crossed lovers. The entire world is against Malini and Priya’s love. Powerful people want them dead, the magic Priya uses has a price, and Malini can’t afford weaknesses. Even if they were living in a time of perfect peace, their world would not approve of two women loving each other. It seems impossible that there will be a happy ending for them, especially with the betrayal at the end of The Oleander Sword.

I am so excited to read the third and last book in this series. I can’t wait to see where Malini and Priya’s story goes, what twists and turns Tasha Suri still has in store.

Thanks for reading with me,
Katie
